Days 30-31
The Mozambique Strait
Lazy day today. Brekkie, then baggo. I did OK, but the team lost by 1200 points. There are one or two people on the team that take it way too seriously, everyone else just has fun. Win or lose, doesn’t matter. Interesting twist today: there was a crew safety drill going on, so if a pair of throwers was up and an announcement came over the PA, those throwers got to also shoot three tiny bags at a tiny board. It was like throwing ravioli at a shot glass. On the board was 500 pts, in the hole was 1000. There were five episodes of this high-stakes round.
Looked around the ship for interesting things to take pictures of. Found a bowl and a background on a wall at the pool. Not terribly interesting, but the pictures are kinda nice.
There was a Cobb salad station at lunch, which looked nice, but I didn’t partake.
We did really well at trivia today. One of seven teams that scored 13/15, the highest score anyone had. The tiebreaker was listing as many of the seven wonders of the ancient world we could come up with in 60 seconds. We got six. One team got seven. Le sigh. So close!
For the second day in a row, we had clear, blue skies during the day, but the sunset was hidden by clouds. Still pretty.
Dinner was short ribs and gruyere mashed potatoes, delicious. Then the guitarist was back for a second show, which we enjoyed more than his first show.
Tonight might be the first time I appreciated how pretty the entrance to the Star Theatre is. Nicely done!
Woke up to a stunning dawn, with lots of colour and just a sliver of a moon overhead. (It’s there, just look for it)
That led to a dramatic sunrise with less colours but more pizazz, thanks to some carefully-placed clouds.
Had a very light brekkie, because of what was to follow a bit later - a Viking Sky Brunch that was so elaborate, they started setting up twelve hours in advance. I’m guessing they cooked and baked all night, because…. well, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
The culinary staff were quite proud of it, and rightly so. I had a few things, then went back for a few more. The Indonesian Street Food station was my favourite, with ground chicken and coconut formed onto skewers with satay sauce and some (forget the name) rice with a killer sambal sauce that was proper spicy. (If you read the previous line in a British accent, you won’t need the “ly” after “proper”)
And I think I’ll end it here. We’re not seeing a show tonight (it’s a magician. Meh.) and whatever we have for dinner isn’t going to compare to the brunch pics you just saw, so…
Back on shore tomorrow in a new country! See you then.
