Oslo: the foodie tour
Another day, another nice breakfast at the hotel buffet. Their scrambled eggs are almost as good as my husband’s, and when they’re piled atop some nice ham and cheese… well, I could get used to that.
After brekkie, I wanted to get a couple of shots of the Opera House in the daytime, so I headed back over there to “hike the House” - and it’s enough of a climb that it qualifies as a hike!
As I mentioned in the last post, the building is supposed to resemble an iceberg and in an angular, abstract way, it does.
We never were free at the right time of day to get a tour, so we didn’t get to see the stage and seating (you can google it), but the lobby is really nice. I like the combination of warm wood and icy concrete.
Those photos were done on my phone camera, which I forgot to shut off after I took these pics. After this, and before the next outing, I managed to get 61 photos and 2 videos of the inside of my pocket.
Ian and Madeleine met us at the hotel for a nice walk back to the harbour front to try out a Japanese restaurant, where Jørgen joined us a few minutes later.
It’s apparently difficult to get in on busy days, but on a cold weekday afternoon for lunch, we almost had the place to ourselves.
The food is all kinds of wonderful and is the sort of stuff that you see on the Food Channel, with ingredients you have to ask your server about and flavour combinations you wouldn’t have thought of yourself. For example:
After lunch, we waddled the half hour back to the hotel, where we met up with friends Linda and Hope and headed back to our fave little Italian spot for what we thought would be a light meal. Rob ordered bruschetta…
And I ordered a spicy sausage. I figured that would be a light meal, but…
